IB History of the Americas Higher Level (HL YR 1)

The focus and purpose of the IB History of the Americas course is to examine the transformation of the Americas, from the initial European explorations into the Americas up to present day. An emphasis is placed on interpreting documents, mastering a significant body of factual information and writing critical essays. Throughout the course, particular attention is placed on developing themes, concerning political, economic, cultural and social institutions within each time period studied. Students will gain an awareness of how American history has helped to shape the Western Hemisphere and reinforces our role in the international community.
