You will learn about the role of parents and study child development from birth to age five. Students completing this course are more employable in child care related jobs.

Students will be introduced to a variety of cooking techniques used in food preparation, including knife skills, basic cooking skills and terminology, along with baking techniques. Safety and sanitation practices are also a key component of this hands on lab course. Culinary Arts will be a good mix of both study and kitchen time with a variety of food labs.

Units could include; principles of food preparation, principles of meat cookery, preparing fruits and vegetables, pastas, breads and grains, alternative food choices, career exploration and more.

High school students will participate in a preschool program for 3-5 year olds as a mentor. You will learn practical ways to guide children in safe, educational ways through various daily experiences. Gain hands-on experience in creating children’s environments and learning experiences through play. Understand how to communicate effectively with children and how to guide their behavior. Explore careers that benefit from child development knowledge, e.g. teaching, psychology, nursing, social services, parenting and more.

This course is a culinary tour of many nations. We will explore the foods, customs and characteristics of regions all over the globe. Through country exploration, students will also learn the diverse customs, influences and food habits of people throughout the world. Students will gain an appreciation for the global society.

You will create a portfolio featuring hands-on class projects implementing design principles. You will also create and decorate original home plans using a 3-D computer design program.

Relationships can be tricky. Parents, friends, siblings, coworkers, fellow students all play a role in your life. Discuss relationship types: learn coping skills, character education, conflict resolution and so much more. Figure out the “why did that happen?” and “how can I change that?” to life’s questions in relationships related to teen issues.

Students register for 1, 2 or 3 terms by application. Test drive a career! Students are given the opportunity to try out possible careers with a Work Based Learning educational approach where the classroom extends into the workplace. Student learning is structured to provide experiences that contribute to the intellectual, social, academic and career development of students. This is an excellent opportunity for students to gain 21st Century skills and apply them in a workplace setting. Internships may be available in areas of education, medical, hospitality, culinary and human services.

Students register for 1, 2 or 3 trimesters by application. Seminar provides students with the opportunities to explore, test and apply skills/knowledge in a variety of classroom and community service experiences. Students examine personal qualities for job success, make post-secondary plans and develop career skills related to their college/career plans. Students strengthen leadership skills in their mentee role while interpreting, evaluating and applying skills / information related to their work or internship site.
